What is Reiki?

Reiki offers time and space to pause, breathe and allow healing energy to flow where it is most needed.

Reiki session

Reiki is a gentle healing therapy which uses universal life energy to help rejuvenate the body, mind and soul. During a Reiki session, energy is channelled with the intention of supporting release, relaxation and energetic balance.

Many people come to Reiki when they feel weighed down by stress, emotional strain or the sense that they have been carrying too much for too long. By creating space for the body and energetic self to release tension and negativity, Reiki can help you feel lighter, calmer and more reset.

Each experience is personal. For some, Reiki simply feels deeply restful. For others, it can bring a stronger sense of emotional release, insight and reconnection.

What happens during a Reiki session?

Your session is designed to feel calm, welcoming and unhurried, with time to settle in before the treatment begins.

During your appointment, you will be invited to lie down and relax in a peaceful, purpose-built Reiki room. Gentle rituals such as aromatherapy and calming music can be included to help create an immediate sense of ease and support the body in softening into relaxation.

Once you are comfortable, hands are placed on the body around the main chakras, including the crown, third eye, throat, heart, solar plexus, sacral and root areas. Additional areas where you feel discomfort, tension or emotional heaviness can also be treated, along with secondary chakras such as the hands, feet and knees.

As the session continues, healing energy is directed to these areas to help release stress, tension and energetic blockages. Sarah may also gently talk through what she can feel or notice within your energy flow, helping you better understand where emotions, patterns or past experiences may be sitting within the body.

The main chakra points

These are some of the key areas often focused on during a session.

Crown – the top of the head Third Eye – the forehead area
Throat – the neck area Heart – the chest area
Solar Plexus – the bottom of the ribs Sacral – the stomach area
Root – the lower abdominal area Additional support – hands, feet, knees or other areas needing attention

What to expect during Reiki

No two sessions feel exactly the same, but many clients describe the experience as deeply calming and restorative.

Deep Relaxation

Many people experience a deep sense of calm during Reiki. Even this alone can feel restorative, especially when life has felt busy, heavy or emotionally draining.

Physical Sensations

You may notice warmth, coolness, tingling, a rushing sensation, heaviness, lightness or the feeling of floating. These responses vary from person to person and can change from one session to the next.

Emotional Release

It is common for emotions to rise to the surface during a session. Some people cry, feel a sense of release or gain gentle insight into emotional blockages they may have been holding onto.

A session lasts around 60 minutes, with time before and after to help you settle in and talk through anything you noticed or experienced. This allows the session to feel complete, supported and unhurried.

Some clients book Reiki when they feel they need an energetic reset, while others choose regular weekly or monthly sessions as part of their ongoing wellbeing routine.

A gentle, holistic approach

Many people are drawn to Reiki because it offers a more connected view of wellbeing, one that includes the relationship between mind, body and emotional state.

For those new to Reiki, the idea of energy healing can feel unfamiliar at first. Many clients simply connect with the experience through how it feels: calmer breathing, a settled nervous system, emotional release and a stronger sense of inner balance.

Some people also take comfort in broader mind-body perspectives that explore the links between stress, emotions, the nervous system and overall wellbeing. Reiki can sit beautifully alongside these approaches by creating the conditions for rest, reflection and self-awareness.

Reiki is offered as a complementary therapy and is not a replacement for medical diagnosis, treatment or emergency care. It can, however, be a meaningful additional support for people who want a more holistic and nurturing approach to wellbeing.
